If you are interested in studying in Canada, then we have some amazing news to share with you. The Vanier CGS (Canada Graduate Scholarships) is a program that was created to help young students from all over the world get their Ph.D. degrees.

The Vanier CGS wants to attract and retain world-class doctoral students who are interested in getting established in Canada and to use the country’s academic centers for researches and higher learning. Now, the Vanier CGS is offering up to 166 scholarships for the course that starts in May/Sept 2020.

Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships Benefits:

First off, the Vanier CGS is offering students the chance to get pursue a Ph.D. degree at all Canadian Universities that have an allocation from Vanier CGS. However, the most important thing is that the scholarships offer a total of $50,000 for a period of three years.

Target Group and Level/Field(s) of Study

The Vanier CGS is targeting Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada and foreign citizens. This means that basically, anyone who is eligible for a Ph.D. degree can apply to the scholarships.

In addition, the level/field(s) of study are Ph.D. programs (or combined MA/Ph.D. or MD/Ph.D.) in health research, natural sciences, engineering research, social sciences, and humanities research.

Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships Criteria:

All applicants need to meet the following requirements in order to be considered for the scholarships:

  • be nominated by only one Canadian institution, which must have received a Vanier CGS quota;
  • be pursuing your first doctoral degree (including joint undergraduate/graduate research program such as MD/Ph.D., DVM/Ph.D., JD/Ph.D. – if it has a demonstrated and significant research component). Note that only the Ph.D. portion of a combined degree is eligible for funding;
  • intend to pursue, in the summer semester or the academic year following the announcement of results, full-time doctoral (or a joint graduate program such as MD/Ph.D., DVM/Ph.D., JD/Ph.D.) studies and research at the nominating institution; Note that only the Ph.D. portion of a combined degree is eligible for funding;
  • not have completed more than 20 months of doctoral studies as of May 1, 2020;
  • have achieved a first-class average, as determined by your institution, in each of the last two years of full-time study or equivalent. Candidates are encouraged to contact the institution for its definition of a first-class average;
  • must not hold, or have held, a doctoral-level scholarship or fellowship from CIHR, NSERC or SSHRC to undertake or complete a doctoral degree.
