The Applications for WMF Empowerment Through Education in 2020 Are Now Open

Winning a scholarship is not an easy task and this is why it’s wise to start applying months before the course even starts. With that being said, students from developing countries who are interested in studying abroad should be happy to find out that the WMF Empowerment Through Education scholarship program is now accepting applications for the 2020 academic year.

If this is the first time that you are reading about the WMF Empowerment Through Education, then you should know that this foundation has been specially created to provide undergraduate students from developing countries with the chance to study in their home country or a neighboring country. The founders of the scholarship program believe that we should invest in communities and this is why all applicants are required to volunteer for a minimum of 100 hours per year.

WMF Empowerment Through Education in 2020: Benefits

The scholarships offered by the WMF Empowerment Through Education program range from $300 to $3,000 annually. They are provided through the undergraduate education of the recipient. Nonetheless, the average scholarship is worth $1,400 and the money can be used for tuition and fees, room rent and books/materials. In addition, the WMF Empowerment Through Education scholarship program is offering 20-40 scholarship positions per year.

WMF Empowerment Through Education in 2020: Criteria

WMF’s ideal candidate is a student, male or female, from a country in the developing world, who:

  •  Successfully completed a secondary education, with good to excellent grades
  •  Is 35 or under on 1 March 2020
  •  Will be studying in his or her country or another country in the developing world*
  •  Is pursuing his or her first bachelor’s degree or diploma
  •  Will be enrolled in a program of study that will benefit the community and/or contribute to the continued growth and advancement of his or her home country
  •  Plans to live and work in his or her own country after graduation
  •  Has demonstrated his or her commitment to giving back and has volunteered prior to applying
  •  May have some other funds available for his or her education, but will not be able to go to pursue his or her tertiary degree without financial assistance
